David Soukup's Bumblebee Sunrise is a feast of anachronisms - the most praiseworthy of visual jewels and the ones used far too carelessly in contemporary art today. In this instance, however, every jewel is placed correctly and with a sense of balance. The rotary phone, the signage, the building, and (most of all) the bewitching female with her gaze framed perfectly by styled hair - all of these elements combine into a periscope view of mid-60's to early 70's (Note: OUR assumption) and make the entirety a wonderful flight of line and color.

All prints are Signed & Numbered by the Artist and come with a Certificate of Authenticity from 1xRUN.

About the Artist

Location: Chicago

My approach is all about capturing details, and I believe the process of creating an image is just as important as the final product. I draw inspiration from the urban environment and have built a reputation for my intensely detailed urban landscapes. I began my career working as a spray paint stencil artist but have constantly found ways to evolve and adapt to new ideas and inspiration, as my work grows more complex and personal. Working with a variety of techniques, materials, and mediums, I find joy in by cutting my highly detailed drawings into fragile, waif-like stencils that translate into sophisticated images depicting urban lifestyle and setting. The final result is my interpretation of the world I see around me, which is an ever-changing balance of city life.

David Soukup is a stencil artist living in Chicago, IL. His work is created with found materials, multiple types of acrylic, latex, and enamel paint, and spray paint. All of his works are created by hand, while pouring hours in meticulously hand-cut stencils, created from his own photographs, found imagery, and the world around him.
