"I began this painting with a textured wash (achieved with salt and water droplets in strategic places) and then penciled in the woman's face and hair. I prefer to begin with the eyes in my pieces, as the emotions they evoke dictate the much of the rest of the piece as it's completed. The piece was completed in a weekend, taking about 20 hours of work. " - Kelly McKernan
