Helena Garza is a Mexican visual artist, living in Mexico City. Her work departs from the visual poetry of the everyday -photographs of spaces and situations understood as the inexhaustible and irreducible reality to a single sense. That is, it arises from the intimate universe, of thoughts, emotions, memories and desires that together with the scorching exuberance of the environment, it defragments; reflection of the present understood as constant decay and rebuilding.
Far from a chaotic variegation, Helena’s work explores harmonic dreams through images and juxtaposed textures of people and spaces of daily life, as well as global social phenomena. These images -figurative memories- are manipulated from the collision of the digital possibilities giving rise to oversaturated and extrapolated realities of the place common: poetic exposition of the given, of the objectual and material, as well as of the dreamlike, the metadiscursive, meta figurative.
They are atmospheres eroded by the postmodern turn from which we understand and experience the landscape in a physical and virtual way. Its aesthetic discourse thus opens transversely to the reductive idea of a reality univocal and, therefore, it is also critical of current dystopias.
Her work, which ranges from analog -painting, drawing, mural and design-, to digital -Virtual reality, use of different software or audiovisual ensemble performance-, expresses the complicity between the conceptual taxonomy of the artist and reality understood as a possibility.
