Monday's Off

An Exhibition of Original Paintings by Sahil Roy

Long-time friends of the 1xRUN family, Studio Supply has joined forces with the Detroit collective to showcase a fresh set of artists from around the globe.

As part of this ongoing series, 1xRUN is excited to present the first installment of Monday's Off by Australian artist Sahil Roy! Through 40+ original, mixed-media paintings, the artist paints his way to personal resolve during lockdown.

"As March rolled through, Melbourne experienced its first round of isolation. I quickly realized that spending my days in the studio may not be the wisest of choices, and opted to establish a makeshift home studio here in my small, inner city apartment instead. I'm glad I did. What had initially started as an attempt to occupy myself soon evolved into something more significant. An opportunity, not only to paint my way through this, but to sit with myself in my own uninterrupted space, to reflect, reassess and re-acquaint myself with my own sense of peace. More so, to be grateful that, in comparison to many others, I'm fine. And will be fine." -Sahil Roy

About this Collection
"As March rolled through, Melbourne experienced its first round of isolation. I quickly realized the commute to my studio and spending my days there may not be the wisest of choices and opted to establish a makeshift home studio here in my small, inner city apartment instead. I'm glad I did. What had initially started as an attempt to occupy myself, as the world waited for this bat-shit crazy virus to blow over, soon evolved into something more significant. An opportunity, not only to paint my way through this, but to sit with myself in my own uninterrupted space, to reflect, reassess and re-acquaint myself with my own sense of peace, and I guess, just be present and mindful of my reality. More so, to be grateful that, in comparison to many others, I'm fine. And will be fine.

"It wasn't long before I noticed the effects lockdown was having on people, those who were out of work and facing the stresses of the uncertainty ahead, and those who 'lived for the weekend'. I'm in a privileged position as a creative, I'm someone who gets to go to sleep and wake up thinking about the next swivel of my roller, that next tear and the playlists that will influence them. This body of work is more than a series of sheets, each piece is a reflection of my personal resolve. I don't live for the weekend." -Sahil Roy
