"The 'Dyspeptic Chef' series was done in two sittings in March of 2015. At the time, I was experiencing multiple failures in my life and it seemed that everything was coming to an end. Making art is often a way to therapeutically make sense of situations you have no control over, and this series reflects that desperate state of mind. In this series I make light of disaster. Your house is burning down? Oh well! Your plane is crashing into the sea? So long! Desperation sucks, but it is possible to make light of it, even as you're about to die. It sure beats being terrified.
This series was created using a wet-impasto technique, using heavy-bodied acrylic media. I would apply the media very thick to a wooden base, and draw into it with fast gestures. I would add color where necessary, letting everything bleed together." - Scott Hove
