"A few years back, I was invited to participate in an annual holiday show called Toys at Primary Colours, a local Indianapolis gallery. Since most of the work I was showing alongside had a more colorful vibe, I decided to go a bit more psychotic with this one. The execution of the drawing was composed with black Prismacolor Verithin colored pencil on Dura-Lar film along with a Sakura electric eraser for highlights.
The concept is pretty straightforward, displaying an angry man tearing apart dolls that had been switched out for something of importance. At the opening, my sense of humor wasn’t as well received with this one as I had hoped. This could have been due to the fact that I was carrying our son in a baby bjorn who was at the time was four months, around the age of that baby doll you’re witnessing being ripped to shreds." - Joseph Crone
This piece of original artwork is signed by Joseph Crone and includes an Original Artwork Letter of Provenance from 1xRUN.
"My intention is to explore, through hypperrealistic drawing, the cinematic narratives and defining visual styles associated with classic film noir. Putting an emphasis on low-key lighting, plot and mood, each suspended moment is then uniquely scripted and captured through the camera's eye. From here I render the previously filmed still by using colored pencil on frosted acetate, a lithographic technique that I have adapted and fine-tuned over hte past few years. The smooth, semi-transparent quality of the acetate enables the colored pencil to achieve not only a wide range of textural detail, but also higher levels of contrast and saturation often seen in early cinema.
Combining these elements of technique along with the genre's ability to engage the audience helps to compose my vision of a cinematic nostalgia, which I plant to further develop and capture with each subsequent work." - Joseph Crone
