About this Art

This piece of original artwork comes ready to hang.

"I first heard the song 'Plateau' by C. Kirkwood, on the Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged album some 20+ years ago. One of 3 songs the band covered by the Meat Puppets. The song interested me because I too used plateau as a metaphor. I would put it this way; Worthwhile endeavors such as the struggle to gain knowledge, success, or enlightenment, are like a tough uphill climb.

At various points along this climb there are rests, a plateau, where one can look back and reflect on how far you’ve come, acknowledge what you have accomplished, and enjoy earned rewards. The danger is in staying too long, believing that this is the goal itself, or being afraid to face solitude and uncertainty of the next ascent.

Kirkwood’s song adds an existential dimension, to this metaphor, the plateau is the mortal plain, and the road to reach it was paved by the lives of those that came before. There may be uncharted places to explore, there may be a spiritual realm, that is unknowable, but there is work to do while you’re here so you might as well enjoy it." - Clinton Snider
