"This piece is a part of my recent Why Is The Moon So Sad series. The original piece was painted using acrylic and liquid gold leaf on linen in June 2013 and from start to finish took me about two days to finish.
The idea, and this series, began when I was invited to participate in a gold leaf themed group show right around the time I started to entertain the idea of incorporating in my art a small glimpse of the beauty of Korean women from the past. So came the Why Is The Moon So Sad series and the use of liquid gold leaf." - Mimi Yoon
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
For artist Mimi Yoon
, there is no concrete definition for art. To her it is simply that "art is." Mimi's artwork vibrates with tangible and sensual beauty and honesty. It subtly allures then climaxes to demand attention and is immediately unforgettable.
Mimi works intuitively without speculating what each piece will be about. She paints with acrylic, but her main medium is her own feelings and mood of the moment. Through her art she explores the landscape of dreams and emotions not understood, and invites the viewers to drift off on emotional journeys into a world of dreaming. Mimi’s art is explosive and sensually mysterious at once and it settles upon the eyes and souls of the viewers like a fine tuned symphony of a foggy night.
