About this Art

This RUN is available on an unstretched canvas or wrapped on a 1-Inch Cradled Wood Frame (shown) with ready to hang hardware.

"Wild Women of Borneo was painted in 2007 and is a bit of a tribute to a couple of things. There was a traditional small sideshow character that has been used through many carnivals Eeka. Eeka was the female "geek" carnival act. A "geek" carnival act is generally the lowest carnival act, mostly unsigned performers. So lots of artists have done their versions of Eeka, there is a bit of this repeating theme, so I wanted to take that and pull from it because I've always loved the Eeka banners and the whole concept of "the geek".

This is also a tribute to one of my favorite bands to play any Theatre Bizarre stage, Snake Out. They have two women, Tina and Brenda, that operate flamethrowers and dress like savage women. There is also little shrunken head and that was always meant to be the band's lead singer Len. This was one of the most fun banners I have ever painted, it was really a blast to paint.

I’ve been wanting to have reproductions of these for a long time, but was never really happy with how they translated and how they were presented, but I love the way these turned out. They have a hand-made, two inch deep frame that the canvas is wrapped around and appear a bit like they are floating. No need for frames!" - John Dunivant

This RUN comes signed, numbered and with a Certificate of Authenticity from John Dunivant and 1xRUN.

John Dunivant
Detroit, Michigan
John Dunivant is a painter and multimedia artist working in and around Detroit, Michigan. His most significant work, Theatre Bizarre, is an incomparably enveloping, art installation-interactive masquerade that began in the year 2000 as a completely illegal event in a neglected neighborhood of Detroit. It has since grown to become the largest immersive event of its kind in the world. He received a Kresge Fellowship in 2012 and was a recipient of a 2013 Detroit Arts Challenge grant through the Knight Foundation.
