"The Title of the piece is 'The Made Villain', which is a play on MF DOOM and Madlib's collaboration album entitled 'Madvillainy'. The connection in this piece is more inception than reality and is ultimately left to the POV of the consumer. Malcolm X inspired the creation of Marvel's most known anti-hero/villain Magneto, while MF Doom chose to wear the mask and name of another notorious Marvel Comics villain Dr. DOOM. Perspective is often skewed by the media, which Malcolm X knew and referenced in a famous quote, 'The media's the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses.'
"This is the second reason why I chose to call this piece 'The Made Villain' because in this life some of the people that we consider heroes are the villains in someone else's story. Based on the impact that both Doom and Malcolm X had on the culture they are forever etched in my brain as heroes who weren't afraid of being labeled as villains for the sake of being true to themselves and to me that type of courage deserves to be circulated on a stamp." –Alexander-John
