ABOUT THIS ART

Framing for this RUN includes a 1 Inch Black Wood Frame with UV-Glass, foam core backing and ready to hang hardware.

"It's no secret I have been interested in Warhol's work for some time, but I have particularly interested in his Mao series, which started in the early 70s at a time when he was encouraged to return to painting. It also coincided with Richard Nixon's visit to China and Life magazine's portrayal of Mao as "the most famous person in the world." Of course Warhol was interested in fame, but this was a departure for him because he has never done a portrait of a political figure before. He borrowed his image from Mao's Red Book, which Warhol carried with him for some time. The current state of the world makes this a good time to update Warhol's Mao with one of the most famous (and infamous) people in the world today, Kim Jong-un, who's official portrait has visual parallels with Mao's portrait." - Cash For Your Warhol

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Cash For Your Warhol is an art project created by Geoff Hargadon, created in the midst of the most recent financial crisis. In 2011 it was featured by Société Perrier at Pulse Miami, and highlighted on opening night at Moniker Art Fair in London. The work has since been developed in various media, including Coroplast, plaques, screenprints, stickers, audio, billboards, and photography. CFYW has been collected widely by collectors and institutions such as the Andy Warhol Museum, MIT List Visual Arts Center, and Cornell Fine Arts Museum at Rollins College.
