"With these pieces I wanted to take the more iconic looking images from my work--nun and skull-- and display them in a sort of 2D/3D way. It's almost like displaying a coat of arms or some slightly sculptural image of an important current/historical figure on your wall. The only difference is these pieces would be that of imaginary crests or important figures. Much like sculptures of Lenin or Stalin seen through throughout every Russian town during the twentieth century. They were created using Ink, acrylic paint, coffee, paper on wood, photocopied original images. I coated the images in coffee for days (multiple layers) adhered the images to wood with archival 'Yes' glue, cut the adhered images from wood, redrew images (over photocopy black) with heavily pigmented ink and then painted some details in with acrylic paint. Then each piece finished with a UV varnish across the front surface." - David Young V
