"I have been inspired by Dutch masters for a while now: 17th century to 19th century. The amount of technique and precision that they applied in their still life drawings is just astounding. I wanted to push my own limits as an artist and aspire to that kind of painting.

"When I found these florists based out of New York, Putnam & Putnam, I asked them if I could use their floral arrangements as inspiration. They agreed, and I used their flowers as models. I just wanted to paint the way those Dutch masters did.

"It’s a portrait of a word. The phrase is framed in flowers in flowers and foliage, but the focal point is just the word. Colors and shapes work with it, and bring it more to life."
