ABOUT THIS ART:
NOTE: Each print in this limited edition is uniquely hand-embellished by the artist, and may vary slightly from the example shown. A portion of the profit from this release will be donated to the Palestine Children's Relief Fund.

"The imagery for this piece transpired during the production of my recent solo show, 'Chromatherapy', which was the debut of a new series of work created at the beginning of Covid lockdown. Also for me, my family and I were dealing with the unthinkable news that my sister-in-law was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer at the age of 34 that swiftly took her life. Making work during this time was ultimately about finding solace and reprieve. I was motivated by the struggle and suffering to make work with purpose.

"This piece incorporates a layered background similar to the textural work I was making at the same time done in a soothing color palette combined with high gloss medium and a dusting of metallic silver paint. The dominant shape centered in the composition is a single arc that represents a layer of protection and comfort from external pressures. It's as much about movement as it is being still.

"This print includes multiple printing techniques - gradient, spot gloss, and metallic. Furthermore, I added a subtle spray of metallic silver and a hit of pink spray paint over an incidental marking made of colored correction tape. Lastly, I stamped my signature circle floating off the top edge of the composition signaling another day is around the corner."

ABOUT Erik Otto:
Erik Otto is a mixed-media artist working professionally in the creative disciplines of painting, sculpture and site-specific installation for over 10 years. Erik has held exhibitions nationally in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington DC and internationally in Vancouver, Mexico City, and Berlin. He was selected for the SF Recology Artist-in-Residence Program, received the VSCO Artist Initiative Grant, and produced work for YBCA Bay Area Now 7. Avid cyclist, explorer of the outdoor world, and firm believer of taking risks, he once self-initiated and self-funded a 6-month long artist residency in the middle of Mexico City that resulted in a pop-up exhibition in an abandoned building just prior to it’s demolition.

Erik grew up in the South Bay Area, lived in San Francisco for 12 years, and is now based in Brooklyn, NY.
