Javier Gonzalez was born in Bogota, Colombia in 1978. He currently resides and pursues an art career in Hamtramck, Michigan. His interest in art and creation began at an early age. Inspired by the intricacies found in the marriage of the natural, the urban, and the cycle of life. Javier developed as an artist starting in small scale and later advancing into larger pieces.
Mainly a self-taught artist, Javier built on the skills learned in his early education and matured his style layering it with fashion and color. Javier considers the savoir-faire of Chanel Haute Couture as a major influence on his creative work. Citing their discipline for workmanship and passion for detail, Javier strives for this professionalism in his work.
In 2012, one of his earlier pieces “Hope Burns Red in Winter White” was selected to participate in the Bombay Sapphire series at the N’Namdi Center for Contemporary art. In 2018, Javier held an art fundraiser at Oloman Café and Gallery where his friends and family gathered to successfully auction his artwork and raise funds for his kidney transplant expenses. He now serves as a volunteer for Mack Alive promoting local artists and fundraising. Javier is currently in the process of creating an exhibit of his work at the Julian C. Madison Building.
