ABOUT THIS ART

The framing option for this RUN includes a 1 inch black wood frame with UV-glass foam core backing and ready to hang hardware.

This September 15th-24th, Murals In The Market will make a triumphant return to Detroit’s Historic Eastern Market as more than 50 local and international muralists will be painting live throughout the district over the course of 10 days in the second year of the city’s only international mural festival.

The free public arts festival also will host dozens of events curated by participating artists including multiple art exhibitions, installations, live music, children’s workshops, community events, artists talks and more all throughout the Eastern Market District. All events will be free and open to the public as these local and international artists extend the market’s vibrant history of public murals.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Budding from a long family history of visual artists, it was natural for Jesse Kassel to follow suit. In 2010 he earned a BFA with a focus in illustration and has since been exploring various creative outlets. Drawing inspiration from vintage advertisements and graphic design coupled with the rich cultural context and aging city façade, Kassel’s work is an Americana-tinged portrayal of the leisure seeking working class. His paintings of alcohol and tobacco products reflect social celebrations as well as the consequential dependency and grief of substance abuse. Using salvaged wood, household paint and twine, Kassel assembles his work with materials reminiscent of rural craft fair debris. His work has been featured at exhibitions both locally and around the world.
