ABOUT THIS ART:
"These two paintings in particular are nostalgic for me and an homage to my Dad who is Joseph Martinez Sr. I remember in my early teens being introduced to “Cheech & Chong” by my him and loving them from the start, it was just a different type of humor than what I was familiar with. We would watch these films together and my dad would share stories about him and his friends and the shenanigans they got into. I remember seeing rolling papers around and always liked the packaging but never thought to paint on them til long down the line . My dad never encourage me to smoke weed and he actually quit smoking cold turkey after 24yrs the day I started high school and started back up the day I graduated he told me “ I can’t ask you to do something that I’m not willing to do myself “ and that was to not smoke and focus on school, I truly respected him even more for that action. Painting on small surfaces is just a fun challenge for me to see how small I can make the details." - Joseph Martinez
ABOUT Joseph Martinez:
Joseph Martinez is from and currently resides in Denver. He is interested in all types of work and finds it hard to not be influenced by so many different artists. He is particularly more interested in the creative process of each piece and likes the challenge of how to build and break down each subject. He plans on continuing to create whatever makes him happy, whether it be super detailed oil paintings on matchbooks or cutting up currency.
