"With this painting at first glance one notices the obvious, but upon a closer look beyond the color and glow of the lights, this painting conveys character and provokes a mood, an insight to a deeper thought or memory.
This painting was featured in my 2012 solo exhibition, Sea Change at Hespe Gallery in San Fransico. The show focused & drew inspiration from the ocean & coastal surroundings, so the 'Surf Motel' fit harmoniously.
What sets this painting apart from some of my other work is the way that the light is portrayed and the luminous color, along with the bold brushstrokes, layering of paint, and the overall mood created." - Kim Cogan
This RUN comes signed, numbered and with a Certificate of Authenticity from Kim Cogan and 1xRUN.
ABOUT Kim Cogan:
Kim Cogan’s oil paintings exploit the expressive nature of the medium to represent the many moods and environs of American cities. Cogan eschews the iconic views of places such as New York, Chicago, and his adopted home of San Francisco in favor of more common sights: alleyways, homes, cemeteries, and residential neighborhoods. Cogan’s work evinces an interest in the properties of light and atmosphere, which take on a heightened effect in his paintings of San Francisco. He uses subtle gradations of paint to suggest specific times of day, allowing individual brushstrokes to cohere into expressionist renderings of urban spaces.
An award-winning artist, Kim has exhibited his paintings to great acclaim nationwide. His work has appeared in Art News Magazine, The San Francisco Chronicle, American Arts Quarterly, Harper’s Magazine, Playboy, and American Art Collector Magazine.
