The woods are lovely, dark and deep ... but the stroll that artist Michael Page has captured in Deep Forest Walk is (to say the least) a bit hectic and shaded with more than a tint of alarm. Page's canvas is NOT a random visual cacophony or cartoon. The discerning viewer detects and deconstructs a myriad number of allusions that echo fairy tales, bedtime stories, and the always changing tapestry of fantasy itself. Even the girl riding a moose (the most prominent detail in the painting) is a sly variation on the myth of Bellerophon - and who wouldn't want Bullwinkle for a co-pilot rather than Pegasus?
