"The theme of the artwork is around the different forms of love found in the Bible that derive from the Greek language; agape (God's immeasurable, incomparable love for humankind), storge (family love), philia (deep long-standing friendships), and eros (romantic love). The type is to remind people to show love, no matter what kind of love they want to show. The brown-colored version is meant to celebrate Black love and relationships, as the phrase also works as a colloquium that is popular in Black culture: ‘show (me) some love’.
"To my family, I show love by helping and serving them in any way I can. I show and have shown love through sharing my art and encouraging fellow creatives in real life and online to be themselves and create dope work. I drew from the Greek because that's a more complex and dynamic way to define love in general, and it aligns with the biblical way of defining love. I also believe that way of defining love opens up how love can be shown outside of romantic relationships, which Western culture focuses on so much. I think, in general, love is something everyone can and should show to others because we need to." –Ndubisi Okoye

ABOUT Ndubisi Okoye:
I am a multidisciplinary artist with a passion for art and design that tells a story. No matter what medium I am working with, I want to create unique stories to motivate, represent, and inspire people, especially those throughout the African Diaspora.
The combinations of hand-lettering, geometric shapes, vibrant color palettes, and tribal patterns create an improvised rhythm throughout my work to uplift and motivate the viewer. I draw inspiration from many areas of my life, including anime, movies, music, poetry, and graphic design. I hope to create art that reflects the African Diaspora, my faith in God in the presence of indifference, and call attention to political issues. I want to show the power, beauty, and complexity of blackness.
