ABOUT THIS ART

This RUN includes a 1 inch black wood frame with UV-glass, foam core backing and ready to hang hardware.

"The title of the work Appeel was born as the union between the name appeal and the verb to peel and it summarizes in itself the bitter truth which conceives that, too often, what has an appeal on us is finally not worth it when it is peeled and deeply discovered or, on the contrary, it was worth it but we had arbitrarily portrayed it as not.

It represents a reflection on the fascination we have for things and people which lead us to perceive them differently from what they actually are. Metaphorically we paint people with the colour we want them to be but if the colour is not fitting, someday, somehow it will peel.

The red layer is crumbling while the illusion is vanishing taking with itself also any bad legacy still resistant from an older past, represented by the few remnants of green varnish. The idea to explore and reproduce ruined materials came to my mind while walking through Venice industrial harbour where I am used to spending a lot of time. The most of the objects you can find there are deteriorated by time and climate and each surface tells a story." - Peeta
