ABOUT THIS ART

This RUN includes a 1 inch black wood frame with UV-glass, foam core backing and ready to hang hardware.

This October 1xRUN in collaboration with jeffstaple took over New York City’s Reed Space for an exhibition of exclusive fine art editions by the Detroit based publisher and hand-painted multiples featuring new work from Ricky Powell, Anthony Lister, Kevin Lyons, Naturel, Mimi Yoon and Prefab77.

For this unique exhibition, Staple has hand-picked select artists from the 1xRUN family to remix his iconic Reed Space chair, with each artist applying their unique iconography to the classic logo. In addition to the logo remix, each artist will be releasing a limited edition print.

After building a global streetwear brand, jeffstaple continues to be instrumental in bridging the fashion world with the contemporary art movement. The collection of artists Staple has curated and assembled for this exhibition hail from every corner of the diverse new contemporary movement blending, design, illustration, photography, graffiti and public art. Each of these hand selected artists have been instrumental in their own right in sculpting the visual landscape of the urban environment. prefablyons

With two equally devoted but unique fan bases, Staple and 1xRUN have found that the fans who support these designers, tastemakers, trendsetters and artists have just 1 degree of separation in terms of style and culture. This event will bring these groups together to descend upon Reed Space to celebrate the confluence of art, culture and style.

This RUN comes signed and numbered with a Certificate of Authenticity from Ricky Powell and 1xRUN.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Born and raised in New York City, Ricky Powell is a legendary photographer who specializes in the environmental portrait. He graduated with an AA in Liberal Arts from LaGuardia Community College and a B.S. in Physical Education from Hunter College. Though Powell initially rose to fame because of his relationship with the Beastie Boys, he is well-known for his intimate photographs that have been featured in The New York Times, The New York Post, The Daily News, The Village Voice, TIME, Newsweek, VIBE, The Source, Rolling Stone, and more.

Born in 1961, Powell’s photographs focus on the organic New Yorker. His photographs simultaneously convey intimacy and detachment, as they provide a unique lens through which the viewer can analyze the mundane. Powell considers the relationship between the photographer and the photograph to be “a chemical connection of some sort”. The connection between Powell and his camera is only further stimulated by Greenwich Village, where he currently resides. As the intrinsic qualities of the photograph have changed since Powell began capturing his moments, so have the subjects; he is now more likely to “photograph strangers in his Greenwich Village neighborhood than multi-platinum hip-hop acts and Downtown art stars.”
