Ron Zakrin - Hand Painted Paint Cans

Ron Zakrin has been an ever present creative force in Detroit since the mid nineties, when he emerged on to the underground electronic music set with paintings that provided a visual counterpart to the Detroit sound that was taking the world by storm. Since those early days Ron's work has expanded in scope and scale; no longer strictly focused on man and his relationship with technology, Zakrin probes the veins of society, and explores the nature of man, love, and loss. Zakrin lives in Detroit Michigan, where he was born and works daily.

ABOUT THIS ART
"This one is called Death. This one is painted directly onto the can. We’ve got a lot of texture. You can see this came from a painting where I stacked a shitload of paint cans and I painted a guy running, so that’s what the orange stripe is from. But I like the way it cuts through. There’s a skull, death on the front. Then on the back I cut out this drawing that I did of a fawn and he’s dancing. There’s something dark about it that went with the demonic theme. It goes with death’s head. This is one of my favorites, it’s so simple, but that’s what makes it good. There’s a lot of negative space, it’s got some gold in there to keep it nice and tight." - Ron Zakrin
