Ron Zakrin - Hand Painted Paint Cans

Ron Zakrin has been an ever present creative force in Detroit since the mid nineties, when he emerged on to the underground electronic music set with paintings that provided a visual counterpart to the Detroit sound that was taking the world by storm. Since those early days Ron's work has expanded in scope and scale; no longer strictly focused on man and his relationship with technology, Zakrin probes the veins of society, and explores the nature of man, love, and loss. Zakrin lives in Detroit Michigan, where he was born and works daily.

ABOUT THIS ART
"This one here looks like an old one, this one is called Gustav, he’s an ape angel here. I painted over whatever was there but if it has this old print on it it’s an old one. I made a block print out of linoliem and it was when I first started doing apes and I started plastering the downtown area with these little monkey heads. I was really into doing ape heads, in fact I stopped painting apes when people would come to my shows or other people would come up to me and say you’re the ape guy. I think Tim Burton did that movie planet of the apes and I felt like I needed to lay off the apes. But I always come back and revist old themes. I was into angels, apes and androids. The three a’s. this incorporates 2. this square, you can’t really read it but it’s an old Chinese stamp. " - Ron Zakrin
