Ron Zakrin - Hand Painted Paint Cans

Ron Zakrin has been an ever present creative force in Detroit since the mid nineties, when he emerged on to the underground electronic music set with paintings that provided a visual counterpart to the Detroit sound that was taking the world by storm. Since those early days Ron's work has expanded in scope and scale; no longer strictly focused on man and his relationship with technology, Zakrin probes the veins of society, and explores the nature of man, love, and loss. Zakrin lives in Detroit Michigan, where he was born and works daily.

ABOUT THIS ART
"This is a portrait of my girlfriend Fannie in green. It kind of has that Jolly Green Giant vibe. She makes these little block stamps and I just appropriated those and filled the painting up. On the back we have this four eyed cat. I painted these androids that have 4 eyes and I turned it over to the feline world. This cat is back here telling stories, doing something…I know…it’s pretty bad. It says on the back on the cat “Money, First. Family, Second. Looks, Third.” It’s a little value system. There’s also a stamp that says complies. If I’m happy with a work, a drawing or a sketch I put on there that it complies. These are also Japanese zeros just floating through space with this cat, it’s kind of a collage of mismatched ideas that I hope leads the viewer to come up with their own narrative." - Ron Zakrin
