Ron Zakrin - Hand Painted Paint Cans

Ron Zakrin has been an ever present creative force in Detroit since the mid nineties, when he emerged on to the underground electronic music set with paintings that provided a visual counterpart to the Detroit sound that was taking the world by storm. Since those early days Ron's work has expanded in scope and scale; no longer strictly focused on man and his relationship with technology, Zakrin probes the veins of society, and explores the nature of man, love, and loss. Zakrin lives in Detroit Michigan, where he was born and works daily.

ABOUT THIS ART
"We’ve got Hermes here, messenger of the Gods in Greek mythology chilling with a beer in modern times… probably bored. But you’ve got this pattern of the wings on his helmet, bird in the background and airplanes. On the back you’ve got the winged boots that he’s not wearing because he’s retired. Hermes retires. Probably my favorite one out of the bunch in terms of color composition and everything, it’s got a nice fuzzy look because I put a lot of hours into it. When I first put paint down, or charcoal or whatever medium, it’s nice and fresh and spontaneous, but I hate that wet on wet look. For whatever I don’t like paintings that look like they were done in a day, or in a few minutes, even if it’s awesome. It’s a problem of mine. When it’s loose and expressive, it’s the most expressive form of painting for me it’s like I want to go back and fuzz it out and add layer upon layer because that’s the way that life is. In the end the way though, that I do it, I think it gets it’s own character. You can tell it took a long time. We’ve got a complimentary color scheme, lots of balance. This one is also done on a brown paper that I wrapped to go around so the paint is not going to flake off, it’s pretty solid, it’s going to last forever." - Ron Zakrin
