"The original piece was painted digitally with a Wacom Cintiq 24HD from scratch. I wanted to draw something shiny, so I did. That's all there is to it. It took roughly 18 hours. It's extremely shiny-looking. It's really rather fetching. How fetching? Well, Industrial Light & Magic owns one, so...a considerable amount." - Sam Spratt


ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Sam Spratt is a Brooklyn-based illustrator who graduated from the Savannah College of Art & Design in 2010.

Since then, he's worked with celebrities, publications, and corporations worldwide. His work and clients range from magazine covers and editorial illustrations for Game Informer, Variety, Rolling Stone, Smithsonian, Gawker, and the Wall Street Journal, promotional and advertising imagery for Angry Birds, FX Network, Cinemax, Bioware, Gearbox Software, and Tomb Raider, among others, conceptual art for the game industry, advertising billboards for National Geographic Channel, cover art and branding for the music industry with music labels such as Universal, Warner, EMI, Def Jam, album art for Foxy Shazam, Janelle Monáe, Childish Gambino, Logic, movie posters for Sundance winning Best Documentaries, as well as personally commissioned artwork and private portraiture for celebrities, athletes, and Fortune 500 CEOs, medical illustrations for The American Association of Cancer Research, with tour bus wraps, merchandise, book covers, websites, logos, advertising concepts, and everything in between.

His work has been featured and interviewed in outlets such as PBS, ImagineFX, Print Magazine, Complex, Yahoo, NME, Pitchfork, Maxim, The Daily Dot, and MTV. His technique is built off of classical oil-painting training and translated to the fast-paced digital world.
