We are excited to welcome back Victor Castillo for a double release of Flying High & Planeta Infierno. These original paintings were shown at Victor's solo exhibition Under Heavy Measures at Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles, California. The title refers to Castillo’s feeling that the scales of power have become oppressive: inequality grows, the protests increase globally, and the brutality with which these demonstrations are repressed is also amplified.

"Both pieces were part of my solo show Under Heavy Measures at Merry Karnowsky Gallery in 2013. The show was divided into two parts, paintings on canvas and paintings on paper. Making paintings on paper gave me the opportunity to explore a different kind of light. The paintings on canvas are in general dark, but the papers are bright and colorful. These paintings are full of emotions and the prints look just like the original pieces. I’m happy with the quality.” - Victor Castillo

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Victor Castillo was born in Santiago, Chile in 1973, an infamous year that marked the start of the military dictatorship in his country. He began drawing obsessively at the age of five, inspired by the animations he saw on television, science fiction movies, and the illustrations on record covers such as Pink Floyd’s “The Wall”.

Victor tells stories in his paintings. As if it were a contemporary chronicle, his work appropriates the narrative logic of illustrations for children’s stories, and the aesthetics of classic animations, to present us with allegories about cruelty, fear, rebellion, greed, indoctrination, violence, and other abuses of power that the artist sees being imposed worldwide. His colorful work has also been described as political poetry coming from the Latin American experience.
