About The Work
About The Artist
This May, Detroit’s trendsetting Movement Electronic Music Festival partners with 1xRUN to bring Italian artist 2501 to Detroit for a full-fledged visual takeover of Hart Plaza during Movement’s 10th Anniversary. In addition, 2501 will showcase an entirely new body of work in a solo exhibition Processi Generativi at Inner State Gallery opening May 28th.

Celebrating 10 years of pioneering electronic music and the visual artwork that it inspires, Paxahau and 1xRUN have partnered to bring their first international artist to Detroit as part of their collaborative Artist In Residency program. This Memorial Day Weekend, 2501 will descend on Hart Plaza with an immersive installation that seamlessly mirrors electronic music, as a human interface brings life to the rhythmic syncopation of a repeated robotic beat.

“This installation and body of work has developed through a progressive series of actions. My concept of painting is based on the continuity of experience, on flow rather than stillness, and it is for this reason that I am not going to show you a sequence of static, motionless slides, but something moving. Pictures and art pieces are static and indoor but they tell a story in motion and they are the result from outdoor processes.” - 2501

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Milan born 2501 aka Jacopo Ceccarelli defines himself as a multidisciplinary artist who abolishes frontiers between media. Through painting, sculpture, installation, photography and even video, this Italian artist plays around with abstract and figurative images alike. Embarked in a quest for blank spaces, 2501 experiments with lines, shapes and motion in free compositions that show strictness all the while breaking art codes. A tireless traveler, he goes from Europe to South America in art residencies. At the age of 20, he settled in Sao Paulo to teach painting to shantytown children, after studying cinema in Milan and visual communication at the New Bahaus University of Weimar, Germany.

His altruistic personality led him to take on a documentary approach starting in 2008, which evolved a couple of years later toward the Nomadic Experiment project, a series of international exhibitions focused around countercultures in Austria, Italy, Mongolia, Canada and California. 2501's site specific and socially committed work in constant dialogue with urban topography, mainly takes the form of murals, among which a specific mural project carried on during the autumn 2016 for Now Art in Los Angeles. Always on the move due to a career that leads him to answer the calls of various art institutions and fairs around the world, he enjoyed many solo shows in 2016, among which Freedom of Choice at the Celaya Brothiers Gallery, Mexico, and La Macchina, at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Lissone, Italy. He also took part in numerous street art festivals like ALTrove (May) as well as Scope Basel (June), where the famous Wunderkammern Gallery represented him, as well as the Arte Feria of Bologna (January): a success that does not seem to impact the artist's free mind since he keeps hunting new projects. - Maxime Gasnier
