ABOUT THIS ART

This release is a part of Ron Zakrin's "Still Life With Drum Machine" at 323East Gallery. The exhibition highlighted Zakrin's career spanning obsession with Detroit electronic music and the effect it has had on his artwork over the years as both a producer and artist.

“At first I performed these live sets and I had an army of modified toy robots that made all these interesting sounds. After a while, it was only naturally that the whole aesthetic of these robots and all this gear started making it’s way into my painting. The two bounced back and forth. Music is a soundtrack, and there was no better soundtrack for painting in the studio than techno back then. For me there was still a wonderful mystery surrounding the music. Beats and repetitive sounds influenced the rhythmic nature of your hand moving back and forth on the canvas. I let the music bleed into my art in all these little subtle ways subtle ways, but eventually the two became kind of separate. So with this show it will be the first time that I marry the two in an obvious, more direct way. “ Zakrin said.
