About The Work
About The Artist
"I became interested at looking how a child's life could potentially be defined by all the products and objects circling around them. The drawing Pharmatopia depicts a baby surrounded by a kaleidoscope of consumer products that have become synonymous with health, upbringing, appearance and life and death. Each object is representative of the culture and illustrates the importance of the object in the stages of human growth and development. Most of the products show a dichotomy between life and death and the importance that they play in the early stages of life. The drawing Pharmacopoeia, shows a slightly more unhealthy looking baby surrounded by alcohol and mixers. Pharmacopoeia literally means drug-making, and i wanted to create an interesting look at the role alcohol has on a culture and how it can be seen to be intrinsically visible throughout someone's live, looming above, always there." - Adam Batchelor

"My work is about the human relationship with its culture. Currently I like to explore a juxtaposition between pop consumer imagery and people from the real world, mostly from developing countries. I draw inspiration from consumerism, object hood and the developing world to look at how western culture can influence and out shadow other cultures." - Adam Batchelor
