About The Work
About The Artist
"My short stint with psychedelics was during my college years in art school (1988-94), ironically this was also when I created the original version of this 'Mickey Splat' image. I tried LSD once and found it far too intense personally, but I did enjoy a handful of the more natural magic mushroom trips. The experiences were certainly mind journeys but I cannot say they had a heavy influence on my work, Ive always thought the way I do even before the shrooms. I don't have personal knowledge of any drug use of my favorite artists. Robert Williams, MC Escher, Dali... judging by their work I can only assume..." - Jason Freeny

Jason Freeny was born in Silver Spring, Maryland, Just outside Washington DC. His early childhood was spent surrounded by his two sisters and hippie parents, his mother a Go-go dancer costume designer and his father a professor of painting and sculpture at the University of Maryland. He was inspired by Pop, modern and surrealist art as well as Saturday morning cartoons.

After high school, he attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, studying Industrial Design. He spent his early career as a corporate muralist, then as a freelance prop and set designer with MTV Networks. He moved on to digital graphics and mobile interfaces with ESPN. He spent a short period as a toy inventor as well as a interactive web designer.

Jasons early success as an artist came with his creations of a series fictional anatomical character schematics and illustrations in 2007 but was most noted when he began creating anatomical toy sculptures shortly after. His sculptural and illustration work has been the basis for several mass produced toys. He has collaborated with Hong Kong-based Toy2R (working on the Qee figurines), Hong Kong-based Fame Master toys producing Gummy bear anatomical toys, United States-based FCTRY producing the "CAPSL" collectable series and United States-based Marbles the Brain Store creating Freeny's Brain Cube puzzle.

The visual style of his work is unique but is influenced by artists such as Robert Williams, MC Escher, Claes Oldenburg and Andy Warhol.

Jason was the Designer, Art Director and Typographer for the poster series entitled Anatomy, which was awarded the Grand Prix (Outdoor) and Gold Medal (Print Work) at the 2009 Dubai Lynx International Advertising Festival and was named "Break Through Artist" of 2011 by Clutter Magazine. He has been included in numerous group art shows and had his first solo exhibition in 2013 with Los Angeles based 101exhibit art gallery.
